The Blue Light Awareness Video
This is a general safety video which was shown at the Public Meeting. It informs drivers what to do – and what not to do – when they see or hear emergency Service Blue Light vehicles approaching. Well worth a look !
The Vehicle Activated Sign ( VAS )
The data for the A281 shows that when the Speedwatch Team are are not present (and no VAS ) the speed ‘compliance’ of vehicles travelling north is around 80% – i.e. 20% of vehicles drive at more than 40 mph. When the Speedwatch Team are present the ‘compliance’ is almost 100% at the point at which they pass the Team – irrespective of the speed they were doing when they were first seen rounding the bend at the north end of the village. A single VAS can raise the ‘compliance’ levels above the levels obtained by the Speedwatch operation i.e 88% for Lower Beeding and (by observation) well into the 90s at Shermanbury. Size, shape and location of these signs varies from parish to parish but Shermanbury is probably ‘best in class’.
The 30 mph Proposal
The proposal is that the speed reduction area, driving north, begins at the Monks Gate sign at the beginning of the existing 40mph limit.Turning left it then extends into Nuthurst Road and continues until the end of speed limit sign. Returning to the A281, the 30mph limit extends past the Elite Garage until the 50mph limit sign. The same restrictions apply driving south from Horsham.
